The Posture Wedge and Posture Cushion

The Posture Floor Cushion and the Posture Chair Wedge can be used to assist children in adopting a good sitting posture when sitting on the floor or when seated in a chair.

The Posture Cushion has a gentle slope with the back of the cushion slightly higher than the front, (7cm versus 5 cm). Children who have tight hamstring muscles often battle to sit in a good upright position when setting on the floor.  Sitting on the Posture Cushion can assist immensely in correcting their sitting posture and in making it easier for them to remain sitting in either a straight-leg or cross-legged position for longer, without becoming restless. Sitting in this manner will result in a better posiiton of the pelvis and of the spine, and can contribute to improved postural control.  The Posture Floor Cushion can be used in ring time, or at any time when the child is required to sit on the floor.

The Posture Chair Wedge has a greater slope from back to front (7cm versus 1 cm), and can assist the child in assuming a more appropriate anterior pelvic tilt while sitting in a chair. The wedge is positioned with the higher part of the wedge at the back. The chair used would need to have a flat seat.

The Posture Floor Cushion and Posture Chair Wedge were designed by Neuro-developmental physiotherapists, and should ideally be used under the direction of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or a biokineticist.
