Foam Building Blocks are the perfect size for young hands. Working with lightweight foam blocks makes for a nice contrast from the usual heavier wooden and plastic blocks which young children usually encounter. The foam blocks need to be handled differently from these heavier blocks when they are used in construction activities. They fall over very easily and they can even be blown over if the child uses a big breath to blow over a tall tower of blocks!
ORAL MOTOR GAMES USING FOAM BUILDING BLOCKS
Sucking and Blowing games using the Theratubing. Below are two fun ways of encouraging sucking and blowing activities for children, in order to assist in developing oral motor skills.
Vacuum Cleaner!! Hold one end of the theratubing close against the side of a foam cube. Suck hard through the theratubing until you create a suction vacuum strong enough to pick up a foam block. You can now pick it up and place it on top of another block. Stop sucking to let go of the block. Continue in this way until you have built a tower. Take care to stop and breathe normally after even few blocks have been lifted in this way, to avoid hyperventilating and feeling light-headed!
Blower Fan / Puff the Magic Dragon
Build a tall tower of foam blocks or a foam block construction or building. Now using the theratubing pipe, blow all the pieces off the construction, one by one!
