Magnetic construction game – The small colourful sticks have a magnetic pole at each end. Children can learn about magnetism by connecting the sticks to each other. They can observe how the opposite magnetic poles attract each other, while two identical poles repel each other! The magnetic balls will cling to either a negative or a positive stick and can be used to connect the sticks to make patterns.
Younger children can make flat, 2-dimensional patterns, which are much easier to build. Make squares, rectangles and triangles, and then encourage the child to draw these same designs onto paper using the pencils of the same colour. The colourful sticks and balls can be linked in a specific sequence or pattern, to encourage sequencing skills.
Older children can challenge their planning skills to carefully and skilfully, connect sticks and balls to create 3-dimensional patterns. Build frustration tolerance and patience as you carefully align the sticks and balls in colourful 3-D patterns!
This game can be used to encourage spatial construction skills, by copying patterns
